What happens when we mix two things together? Students will learn about common household items and how they are used to change the chemistry of other items. The students will also learn about the properties of substances and how different amounts make different things. They will conduct fun experiments like making ice cream and developing new flavors!!
Architecture & Design
Our lessons engage children’s bodies, minds, and imaginations to explore how buildings and cities are designed and built. Lessons appeal to the various learning styles of children as they look, explore, think and design. In considering how to create functional, safe and appealing environments, children develop skills of observation, reasoning and critical thinking. These tools will develop within them an appreciation and respect for the built environment. (AIA Michigan architects)
Human Board Games/ Mazes
Our human board game projects will work on skills in character building, teamwork, sportsmanship and total participation. While engaged in our mazes, participants are introduced to concepts behind simple computer programming while directing players through our kid made mazes. Human mazes also build, trust, leadership and communications.
Students will discover the amazing projects they can make with their imagination and they will design, create and bring their images to life with our animation software program. We will also visit the Philadelphia Franklin Institute’s Disney Pixar’s Animation exhibit to learn much more!
Earth Science/ The Worlds of Bugs
Do you know what bugs like to eat? What type of bugs are dangerous and what types of bugs are harmless? Presentations and lessons will be conducted by Cooper Pest Control and Entomologists from the Department of Agriculture in NJ. On our 10 acres, there are so many bugs to go around, the learning will be endless.
Lemonade Stand/ Business 101
Did you ever want to start a business but didn’t know how? Students will learn the ABC’s of entrepreneurship. We will cover how to turn an idea into a business, writing basic business plans, marketing, supplies, customer satisfactions and so much more.
Forensic Science / CSI
Did you know that the length of your arm can be used to find your height, just like the ratios in a person's face can be used to identify them? This summer we will become super sleuths by solving crime scenes and examining evidence. We will use critical thinking skills, deduction and reasoning to solve mysteries.
Skills we will master
Here are 11 skills children are invited to practice and master while being fully immersed in a fun, age-appropriate, design-related activities:
Design is all about experimentation regardless of outcome. It is about making and doing without inhibition. According to Jane Alexander of National Endowment for the Arts, it’s about “putting ideas to work in situations that allow children to test themselves and the value of learning in everyday life.” It is about honoring authenticity while focusing on the process, not the finished product.
